Northeast Florida Chapter of NARPM Dedicates Time to Community Service Project

NARPM of NE Florida partnered with NEFAR and MLS to build a very sturdy ramp for a disabled man. Thanks to Platinum member Greg Kinser with A/C Systems of Jacksonville; four of their employees helped out!

Building a home entrance ramp helps increase mobility and safety for the disabled.  These homes are selected by the city and prioritized by the need and risk to the disabled individual.  Those with multiple falls or injuries are considered high-risk and take priority.   The group of volunteers tore down the old ramp or stairs and replaced with an new sturdy ramp that meets code.

Thank you also to Chapter members: Vice President Tiea Vincent, Legislation Chair Jack McSwain and Hospitality Co-Chair Nancy Maggiore

All new attendees were welcomed and all presidents gave a 30-second presentation since we had no official sponsor for the meeting.  Several presenters distributed useful forms that they use in their everyday business. The presenters sat at each table for 5 minutes until the bell rang and they quickly ran to the next table, kind of like speed dating for property managers!  Our chapter VP Tiea Vincent shared a document that explains to owners how much money they will lose if they price rent too high. Mike Collins handed out a tenant move-in checklist and new property checklist. This meeting had good, practical information with lots of discussion and tip-sharing, thanks to our top-notch professional property managers. Everyone certainly walked out of there with a lot of useful tidbits.

Certifications to Make You a Better Property Manager

In the world of property management, there are many different routes in the career that one can take. A number of associations offer education courses and processes to attain certifications and designations. These serve not only as excellent education to promote your business practice, but as a way for you to advertise yourself to your customers as certified or designated by these large professional associations. This gives you increased credibility with your customers – they know you are educated to a certain level – and also adds to your perceived value, giving you an easy way to increase your fees (and make more for your time). Aside from extra certifications, you can acquire a real estate broker’s license which is required in some states to manage properties. Even if this is not required, doing so can boost you over your competition.

This is about more than just slapping a sticker on saying “I’m a certified professional!” More important to you is the goal and challenge of acquiring these certifications. From a personal perspective it means you are taking the time to enrich your professional knowledge and skill – it is an investment in time and energy to say “I am the best at what I do.” Above all the titles, this says more about you to your customers than anything else. In this article we will explore these certifications and designations that you can learn through NARPM.
